Re: english meaning and origin of the name

SCHUMACHER, Die Namen der Bibel (not a very reliable book) says:
a) permitted b) City of lust c) border, end; but he states no sources
My Greek dictionary has: "ephesis" (endeavour) from the verb "ephiemi", which can also mean "to desire" or "to permit"
The closest I can get to "lust" is "ephedomai" (to be glad).
But my "Lexikon der Alten Welt" (Carl Andresen, Hartmut Erbse and others, Düsseldorf 1965/2001) says: of pre-Greek origin (thus unknown)
