Re: name meaning

I camped on the slopes of Mt. Mahana in the central canyon of Wild Basin in Rocky Mountain National Park, located on the front range of the Rockies near Estes, Colorado, last summer. I wondered what Mahana meant, too, so I searched. I was looking for the American Indian word, but the search was confounded by many references to the South Pacific Islander word meaning.
I never did find a sufficient explanation, but I am sure it is somewhere in the literature. There are just SOOO many peaks and mountains in the Rockies, even in RMNP, that it's like looking for a needle in a haystack. I'm sure it's there, though. There are quite a few sources of histories of the area, and histories of naming.
One way that I haven't tried is contacting the park officials. They have a lot of old archives that have to do with naming the peaks.
