I don't know which place-name you have in mind, but one old name of Salesbury is SARISBERIE (11th cent.), another one SEAROBYRG.
This is taken form: A.D.Mills, Dictionary of English Place-Names, Oxford 1997. He says, that the name is from an obscure Celtic word and gives some more information. If you need to know more, let me know.
