Re: meaning of Lail

Well, tell us where your parents came from, and whether you're a boy or a girl. Did you ever ask your mother why she gave you that name? Work with us here, Lail! Some of us may be psy-chicks and psy-guys, but it helps if you give us a clue or two. :)-- Nanaea

"Lail" is an Arabic word which literally means "night". It is also the title of Chapter 92 of the Koran: "Al-Lail", "The Night".Other forms of the name are: Laila, Layla, Leela, Leelah, Leilah, Leilia, Lela, Lelah, Lelia, Leyla.-- Nanaea

In the North Carolina city I just left, most people were of German descent (woodworkers who came for the wagon factories and later provided the skilled labor for furniture-making) and "Lail" was a common last name. No idea what it means tho. (No Arabs I ever met, altho scads of Mexicans in the last coupla years...)But i'd be inclined to think "Lail" as a first name came from the possibly-German surname.
