Joel and
Elihu are Hebrew names meaning "
Jehovah is God". Jola could possibly be
used as a feminine of
Joel but it is not a genuine feminisation and does not share
Joel's meaning.
As far as I can discover, Ancient Greek had no word for "pretty". The nearest word, "beautiful", was
asteios, kalos or
horaios. The modern Greek for pretty is, as near as I can transliterate it,
omorphos. "Cute" is approximately
charitomenos and "attractive" is approximately
elkystikos. So a meaning of "pretty" in Greek is unlikely for Jola.
As for the "ion, violet" meaning, if you read my post you would have seen that Jola is a shortening of
Jolanda, which
means "violet".
In general, sites like parenthood.com, bubbaboo.com and other "Baby" name sites are highly untrustworthy, and we ask people not to quote such sites unless they've independently researched the meaning.
