Is the name "Yanni" a variation of Iannis? I have an aquaintance who is very much a fan of the Greek New Age musician, and I can't encounter her without seeing one or more of his CDs in her backpack (personally, I'm not exactly thrilled with him).

THere are no stupid questions, just stupid answers...
The Greek form of John is Ioannis, and nicknames inclide Iannis, Tannis, Yannos etc.
Personally, I rank Ianni's music a close second to Muzak. Music even unfit for the boudoir of a Piraeus brothel. Gheorghe Zamfir's pan flutes *rock* compared to Ianni's mass-produced aural excrementia.
