Marmaduke appears to mean "a devotee of Maedoc", a noted Irish saint of the 6th century.
Don't know anyone by that name, altho I recall it being used in a Mickey Mouse comic book story of my youth as the name of a rascally rodent con man.

I remember a Marmaduke from the newspaper comic strip. He was a Great Dane, kinda like Scooby Doo, except he didn't talk like Scooby: "Rallo! Ry rame ris Rooby-Roo! Rhat's rours?"
