Its delicious.
It's definatly usable
I've seen it used, actually, in a few places. It's not something I'd really use, but I like it quite a bit.

It's not my style, but I like it for someone else. I don't think the associations are too strong.
I like it but prefer the spelling Ruben.
I really like it. It's not at all popular here in Australia, which is nice.
Reuben's a great name
Despite the American Idol (I actually completely forgot about that guy until you brought him up) and the sandwich, I don't think either of those will be too associated with it. It's a legit name and it's a great one.

I think it's a cute name! If you were really worried about the associations, you could always call him Ben :D
I think Reuben sounds wonderful. Doesnt sound terribly trendy, so hopefully there wouldnt be a ton of them by the time the kid grows up. I think family names are a great way to go if you like them, because it just has a special meaning to you and everyone in your family. Two out of three of my son's names are family names that I happened to like, and some people may think its cheesy, but I love it! Maybe pair Reuben with something you really really like, such as
Reuben Gareth,
Reuben Jonas,
Reuben Liam,
Reuben Tobias
