Are you really saying that someone named their child after a cartoon cup? Presumably one with a minor spot of damage? Ian is a top favourite of mine, and a family member named Gary makes me at least tolerate it (I'd have used Gareth); but Chip!
I met a Chip once: he was a civil rights lawyer from California and also a Charles IV: his great-grandfather was Charles, his grandfather was known as Charlie, his father was known as Chuck, and that left him to be known as Chip.
