I mentioned Lillian to a (non-name nerd) friend of mine recently and she said "ew that's an old lady name", which surprised me. I've never thought of Lillian as particularly dated, even though I live in the UK where Lily is very trendy and popular right now and Lillian less so. I like it and would use it as a long name for Lily. Lily has long been a favorite of mine, but nevertheless I switch between preferring Lillian because it has more substance and preferring Lily because it's sweeter and less serious. I like that Lillian rhymes with million, billion, and trillion; for some reason, I think that's neat.LISTEN TO THE MUSTN'TS
