Oh geez, it's already so frumpy on a boy, I would not saddle a girl with that burden.

I'd dislike it on a boy but despise it on a girl. -son names on girls are always silly (except Alison, of course) but this really just sounds like a joke.

Can't take it seriously, because it's so aggressively, self-consciously, deliberately masculine; it's a flip-off, not a name.
(Also, my best friend when I was a kid had a cat named Benson; her parents named him after the TV detective.)
