Re: Hugh?

Hugh's a lot of different kinds of men. Hugh's strong and tough, a charmer and a womanizer with a heart of gold, a nut whose family lovingly tolerates his eccentricities.
Or maybe I watch too much tv; I immediately think of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Hugh Grant as every character he's ever played, and Hugh Newtron, Jimmy Newtron's duck decoy-collecting father. But I suppose that's a good thing--the name has a lot of different images attached, which would make it more comfortable for a little boy called Hugh to be one. (Better than being a girl named Madonna or Cher, at least!)
In any case, I think Hugh is great, if not something I'd choose. (It's too classy for me--its star power doesn't feel quite earthy enough for me ever to really consider it, lol.) And Hugh Alexander is a great combo, IMO. It's aesthetically pleasing in sound and look, and it honours you. :D
Some other ideas:
Hugh Oliver
Hugh Elias
Hugh Evander
Hugh Abram
Hugh Benjamin
Hugh Philip
Hugh Theodore
Hugh Xavier
Hugh Alasdair
Hugh Tobias
Hugh Donovan
Hugh Zachary
Hugh Zacchaeus
Hugh Gregory (which has the dubious benefit of being House times, like, ten)

I really like...
Hugh Theodore
Hugh Xavier
Hugh Alasdair (it sounds very European, which I am not :o)
Thanks for the thoughts and the suggestions. I tried to poll it and the poll people seem almost a different breed from the message boards!

The poll kids come off as more conservative in naming--and younger--than the message board kids. Far more of them, for the sake of example, disliked the name Evening when I asked about it.
I'd trust the messageboard, myself. ;)
