I like this name, along with Zinnia, because they are really flashy and a bit tacky in terms of flower names. They're fun. They seem like "fun auntie" names that belong on women who are perpetually middle aged who don't give a damn about what anyone else thinks, living it up. The kind of people who laugh too loud in public and wear obnoxiously bright lipstick. I like those kinds of people, so I like Azalea. It makes me think of summer afternoons on a patio, chunky gold jewelry and hair that is a bit too red. It's a very "warm" name for me.
Zalie/Zaylie is what I'd use for a nickname, but Zae is pretty great too.
