I have an Aunt
Fay (born 1950s). Her first name's
Hazel, which she hates, so she goes by her middle. I have a great-aunt
Fay (actually she might spell it
Faye? born 1920s) on the other side of my family.
The
Faye spelling looks a bit ditzier to me than
Fay does.
Fay sounds country...rural and quaint...magical and minimalist, if I make an effort to broaden my associations...and comes across like filler as a middle name...
It's not unpleasant, but it seems dated to me, and I'd prefer
Maeve or
Hope if I wanted something that gave me a similar vibe.
