Does Della stand well on its own? Or is it too nickname like?
So, I really love the name Della. I always have. I think it's got a really pretty sound to it, and I think it's just a really happy name! I heard that it's a diminutive of Adela, which is okay, but a little frilly for my tastes. I'm kind of looking at it like it's really just a variant of Adela, rather than a nickname. Sort of like how Lucy comes from Lucia. Do you think Della stands well on its own? I honestly don't think it looks like a nickname anyway. What do you think?

Yeah, Adela's too frilly for me, and Adele makes me think of the singer. Not a big fan of Adelaide either. Can you think of any more? I'm surprised, I couldn't tell it was a nickname till I looked it up. Does it help that I'm looking at Della as a variant of Adela, so it still means "noble", like how Lucy is a variant of Lucia? That way, it has some substance. What do you think?
It’s a nice name, but it sounds like someone was trying to spice up the name Ella by sticking a D at the front. I think it can stand on its own, but I prefer it as just a nickname.
It usually does stand on its own, and has for a long time.
Yes, I thought so. Thanks!
I have a relative called Adele Suzanne, and her parents called her Della exclusively. When she was a teenager, she told all her friends to call her Adele or Del.
I think Della can work on it's own (think Bella and Ella) but it's nice to have a choice I think. My Adele was very sporty and thought Della was too frilly!

Well Adele actually isn't too frilly for my taste. I only find Adela to be frilly. I don't like Adele because it makes me think of the singer.
I guess I don't really think of Della as a nickname. I didn't really know it was one till I looked it up. It's very hard to decide which idea is better for me. I'm not really a fan of any of the sound of any of the names Della is short for, I like to think of Della as a form of Adela though.
