Ela
How would you pronounce Ela? I know someone that named her daughter that (not nickname). Pronounced like Ella. My mom said that if she just saw it she would read it as ee-la.

I'd pronounce it like Ella and assume it was the Welsh spelling, because that's how you spell Ella in Welsh. If they weren't Welsh I'd assume eh-la.
I'd say "EE-lah" for sure, and an argument could be made for "AY-lah". But it would be hard not to roll my eyes if somebody tried to convince me it was the same as "Ella".
Yes, I'd do as your mother did.
I don't like it, it look "lacking", somehow.
Maybe kind of Biblical?

I agree, something is missing looking at it. Not Biblical, the parents are not religious.
Ela = eh-LAH, seen in Europe as a diminutive of
Ad-ela, Anni-ela, Ang-ela, Carm-ela, Consu-ela, Dani-ela, Emanu-ela, Gabri-ela, Gis-ela, Irm-ela, Micha-ela, Manu-ela, Mars-ela, Pam-ela, Raffa-ela, Urs-ela, Ven-ela, Ves-ela, Yan-ela & Zin-ela
Ela, also usual with Eli-sabeth, tendency but more to the diminutive Eli = eh-LEE

I'd assume it was either ay-la or like Ella.
I would assume that it was a poor (sorry) spelling of Ella and try that pronunciation first, but just looking at it "ee-la"
I'm pretty certain I would pronounce that ee-la.
