Re: Oscar

I love Oscar. I think it sounds handsome and also sort of geeky, but not in a bad way.
What else to say about it! I like that it's a name of Irish origin that has come into widespread use. I like that it has such widespread use in general - it seems to be well used throughout Europe and Latin America. I agree that the "deer friend" meaning is lovely - not as big a fan of the "god spear" one but eh, what can you do.
I think Oscar Wilde, despite his misfortunes, is still a pretty good namesake. I also think that association makes this name seem more dignified/formal, instead of languishing in the "goofy and unusable" bucket with the likes of Grover and Kermit. (Although secretly I really like Grover as well).
