The name Avril is heavily associated with the singer Avril Lavigne. That's probably what puts people off to it. It's the same reason why people don't use Madonna much anymore - it's a name that's too heavily associated with a particular celebrity for most people to consider.

Because of how well known Avril Lavigne is. It'd kind of be like naming your child Rihanna in America, which I adore but can't use due to people assuming I'm obsessed with the singer.

I don't care for it in English. Partly because of Lavigne (not that she is a bad namesake but just that it seems to be copy-cat-ish to use it, when most people had never heard of it before her). But also because it sounds so much like surname Averill, and seems to ride on the coattails of trendy Avery. If it's ah-VREEL, it comes out in English like "of real" and that doesn't sound great to me either. I'm sure it must be pretty in French ... whatever. Not really my thing, but it's not awful. I prefer April.

All I can think of is Avril Lavigne.

I don't know why it's so underused...maybe bc Avril Lavigne? Of course, she's amazing, so I can't see why she'd be the reason. lol

I like it. I used to love it, but not as much any more.

I like Avril a lot better than April. It used to be in my top 10 regularly; it's not now, but I still like it a lot. I think I'd use it.

When I posted about it before, most people complained that it made them think of Avril Lavigne (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avril_Lavigne), and I guess she's still singing but I haven't heard anything from her in a long time and I don't find the connection to be a big deal.
