Re: Posy
in reply to a message by whim
I am really rather fond of Posy ^_^ Probably because of Ballet Shoes (the book, not that awful movie of it).If it was on my list, though, it would be a GP too. It's so very childish. And there's a danger of it really NOT fitting the person with the name... to some, having to say their name was Posy would be a total embarrassment.
Have you thought if you ever did get the chance to use it that it could be a nickname for something? Josephine nn Posy? That way she'd have something to fall back on if she needed...
(This was actually someone else's suggestion a while back but I forget who.)From your list I like:
Posy Elspeth
Posy Marian
Posy Adeline
Posy Catherine
Posy FrancesDislike:
Posy Regina - though to be fair this is only because Regina makes me feel illPosy Cordelia - Cordelia is so much like cordial that this sounds like a flower-flavoured drink. Like elderflower cordial.Posy Jemima - two babyish name is way too much Posy Tamsin - much as I (obviously) love Tamsin, the colours in this clash horribly >_<The others are okay. I don't have much opinion either way.
Leo Alexander - b. 2012Maeve Luna & Tamsin Rose - b. 2014

That's actually why the name isn't on my list. Other than being cutesy which I personally don't mind, I'd worry that maybe she would be very large and you just can't be large and be named Posy. It defies everything. Which, after saying that, makes me question myself and my perceptions of appearances and names. Hm.I like the idea of Josephine as a full name for Posy and it's been on my list before. It just doesn't fit my tastes very well at the moment. Josephine keeps ending up in the middle since I can't think of an amazing middle name for it.Thanks!

No, I agree. You just can't be large and be named Posy. It would be awful. You also couldn't be drippy, pessimistic and depressive. I think most people have certain perceptions of appearance that go with names, tbh. I know that I do. Not for all names; an Elizabeth could be anyone. But names like Posy, Scarlet, Angel, Willow, Linnet, Sol... names like that, for me they only suit a certain kind of person and would be utterly awful on other kinds.ETA: Middles for Josephine are difficult... and we were considering Josephine as a mn for one of our girls. I like both Josephine Grace and Josephine Rose, but I know lots of people object to those here.
I also love Josephine Autumn and (weirdly for me) Josephine Troy.
