Priscilla
Not one but two different people I know have suggested we name our soon-to-be daughter Priscilla. We aren't going to but I'm curious as to what people think about it...I find it somewhat shocking that two different people would bring it up when its a name I really haven't seen used or even talked about.
Any Thoughts?

Queen of the DesertSorry, but I can only associate this name with a pink tour bus and Australian drag queens. Not that this association is exactly bad in any way :)

I ADORE that movie. :)The name is nice, though. I knew a Priscilla in high school, she was a sweet girl with long, dark, curly hair. The "priss" part doesn't bother me, which is odd since I hate the "Prim" in Primrose.

YesOne of the BEST movies of ALL TIME.

That's interesting-- I didn't realize Priscilla was in the wind these days either! I think it's OK. I like Prisca much more, but Priscilla isn't bad. I knew one who went by Prissy, which I loathe. The other two I know go by Cilla. I think I like it better as a full name than any of the nicknames that go with it.

I like it. There's something calm and sparkling about it. If it had to be shortened I think Pris is okay - reminds me of Blade Runner. Or maybe Rilla.

I want to like it. I really do. I like the possibility of "Pris" as a nn. But I do not like the sound in Priscilla. I envision a snobby princess or something. I just can't make myself like it.That being said, I wouldn't dislike seeing it on a little girl. It's a solid name in a sea of horrors.

This has always been one of my favorite names; I think it's really cute and feminine. I also don't think it's a name that ages badly- I could imagine myself talking to an elder lady named Priscilla. Alot of people seem to associate this name with being "prissy" or being a little snooty but I find that ridiculous; I'd never assume a person's personality just based off of their name.

For years and years, this was my most disliked girls' name. Well, and Phyllis. (That was before I had access to, or even knew about, the existence of name blogs. Now, both have been supplanted by oodles from the Horrible KreeAtv category, along with Greer and Sloane). It was something about the Pris (prissy) and the cilla (silly) combination. While I still don't love the name, it no longer addles me.

It's not really my thing. I like Drusilla though. It seems less prissy than Priscilla, which has the sound 'priss' right in there. Haha.

I like it. I don't know if I'd use it - it's not really my style, not simple/earthy enough. But it's a great name. Too bad the only obvious nicks are Pris (which I actually think is a totally cool nickname, but I guess people would object), Sissy, and Cilla which becomes Silly ... *sigh* Anyway I think the full name could be used all the time and it'd be fine.

I knew a Priscilla in high school, and she always went by her full name.

I... hmmm... I wouldn't use it, but I still think it's cute. It's uncommon without being too out there, which is always a plus. And it's got-in my opinion-a classy (but not snooty) connotation to it.
