Jethro will forever remind me of country bumpkin,
Jethro Bodine, of the "
Beverly Hillbillies." I'm afraid it's forever tarnished in this country the same as the name
Jemima (although for different reasons). Having said that, it doesn't sound bad at all. In fact, my middle dd and her boyfriend are hoping to marry one day and name their ds
Nathaniel "
Jethro." I sincerely hope not because they're too young to even talk that way and I'd really hate to have a grandson named
Jethro. I can't begin to describe how much I'd hate that! Perhaps if someone famous named their offspring
Jethro and eased the name into the public consciousness that might alleviate some of the down home feeling associated with the name. Otherwise, I don't see it happening any time soon. It's a shame because it like
Jemima are actually nice names.
ETA that it's not just the hillbilly association that bugs me. It's the dumb hillbilly association that is such a turn off.
