Thoughts on Alyssa
Popularity aside, I've always had a thing for Alyssa and Alissa. I've been trying to get into Alisa, but it's just not as pretty to me. What are your opinions on Alyssa and Alissa? Which spelling do you prefer? Any combo suggestions?

I think Alyssa is kind of pretty, I don't like Alissa or Alisa. Although I think Aliza is gorgous. Out of it -issa names I like Larisa the most, and also Clarissa. Alyssa Morgan
Alyssa Laurel
Alyssa Catrine

I like Alyssa. It makes me think of alyssum flowers, which have my favorite of all flower fragrances. It's modest and pretty. The first time I saw it used was when a neighbor named her baby Alyssa in 1980. It seemed sort of trendy, but it's not trying too hard to be anything IMO - it was just a fresher alternative to Melissa and Alicia. I guess it has the same slightly "downmarket" image as, say, Jasmine - maybe a tad "whiter?" - but slightly "downmarket" does not really bother me and I would be willing to use Alyssa for a daughter if my husband rejected all of the names I like more.I don't care for Alissa much, because to me the flower association is crucial to the appeal of Alyssa. And I don't like Alisa because it's too much like Lisa. Lisa is a name I really don't like. I have met a lot of Lisas, and liked 0 of them that I can recall.

I've always had a thing for Alyssa, as well...a hate thing. I can't stand the -issa names. The only one I like is Marissa.

The one I hate least is Clarissa. I still don't like it, but I hate it less than the others, because I feel that the sharp C sound at the beginning offsets somewhat (just somewhat, not totally) the sappy sounding ISSA at the end.

Oh, yeah, I like Clarissa too. I forgot about that one.

I hate every name that ends in an "issa" sound, including Alyssa. I think that they are too over-the-top pretty and too femme and just overall try too hard, as if they are screaming at everyone about how pretty-pretty-pretty they are.A while back, my daughter mentioned someone she knows who has a little girl named Alyssa, and then I said, "Eeew, Alyssa, I can't stand that name" and then both my daughter I started to repeat the name Alyssa and say, "Hi, I'm Alyssa, I'm so pretty" over and over while making our eyes big and putting stupid smiles on our faces and lisping the S in the Alyssa and pronouncing "pretty" as "pwetty".

I used to really hate it. I thought it was trendy, tacky, insubstantial and boring. It has really grown on me a lot, though. I first started to like Elissa (click on it, it has a long history) which I pronounce differently (just a very slight difference, though) and it helped me warm up to Alyssa and Alissa. I also watched 'Who's the Boss' reruns at the time and Alyssa Milano made me like it a bit more. So yeah, I like it but I don't love it. The reasons why I don't love it: it's way too common and 90s dated (it came close to the top 10), it kind of sounds like a combination of pretty sounds with no history (I know it is connected to a Greek word but most people aren't sure whether it is actually Greek and it doesn't seem to have a long history which sometimes makes me think that it was made up based on other trendy names such as Melissa and Marissa and that the Greek word link was made later to attach some meaning to it), it is too close to so many other trendy names or dated names such as Melissa, Marissa, Carissa etc, it sounds kind of childish, it is still way too common, there are a million variants and ways too spell it.I don't pronounce Alisa and Alyssa nearly the same. Alisa is ah-LEE-sa to me. Elissa might be a variant you could like but many people pronounce Alyssa and Elissa the same.I like Alissa, but Alyssa is better. Also people would always misspell Alissa. I also like Alyssia.Alyssa Violet, Alyssa Rose, Alyssa Lily. I like it paired with a flower name, it makes the name so colorful.Haha sorry, this got long :P
