The problem with Nova for me as a name is I have so many other associations with it that they become distracting. I haven't read number1212's post, but obviously the American public television series does come to mind. Exploding stars and Chevrolet cars too. I didn't think of Nova Scotia but now that Ozma has reminded me of it it's just another brick in the wall against Nova.
Neva ("NEE-vuh") is a similar name that I love. It's a river in Russia, near St. Petersburg. The Russian pronunciation is "nyeh-VAH, " but I have no problem using the English way too. It also means "snow" in another language (Spanish?). Double check that one, though.
