My brother's new dog is Deanna. :-D

Weirdest dog name I've heard in a whle.
Anyway: I'd have to go with Deanna. Donna will always bring to mind two TV characters: Donna from 90210 & Donna Reed. It's too bad because it does have a retro vibe to it. :-/ Deanna is pretty tied to the character Deanna Troi, but it's still pretty enough. One of my favorite authors had a character named Deanna in one of her books - can't remember which one. She was named after Deanna Durbin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deanna_Durbin) I don't much about her - which is odd, given how much I watch classic movies - but she was a looker. :-D (I'll be adding a few of her movies to my queue if they're available.)

Is the book Summer of the Dragon?
Yep. :-D By Elizabeth Peters aka Barbara Michaels aka Barbara Mertz.
A dog name, huh? I guess that pretty much sums up what people think of Deanna... so unfashionable that it's comical? I forgot about Counselor Troi, but I shouldn't have. I like the name Deanna and have sometimes wished my mom named me it. =\
I guess the lack of responses here is a pretty good clue how interesting people think these two names aren't. lol

I don't know. The pounds always give weird names.
I adopted a battle-scarred, crinkled eared cat named Mary Claire. I never understood that one - who on earth would name a cat Mary Claire?!? I am betting that someone who was a big Star Trek fan when the dog came in and that's how she got the name.
Plus this board isn't really a good way to judge how interesting names are. It's why I miss NameNerds so much - there was a wide variety of naming styles and everyone was willing to voice an opinion. Here if it falls out of the realm of hipster, classic or trendy-bashing you don't get many replies - unless it's 'out there.'
