I quite like Ilaria and pronounce it differently from malaria so it wouldn't be a problem for me.

I like it! In my accent malaria is ma-LAYR-ee-uh, not ma-LAH-ree-a, so I don't think of that at all. It reminds me of Iliana, but prettier.

Gorgeous. Girl names beginning with "i" are particularly attractive to me. And Ilaria is no exception. I once knew a woman name Hilarear (or was it Halarear?), pronounced exactly like Hilaria. I asked her about the spelling and she agreed it was puzzling. But it was a family name so she couldn't change it. Anyway, it got me to really like Hilaria. And Ilaria is Hilaria's even more exotic cousin. Fun.
