I named my parrot Elmo. He loves it, too, it was the first thing he ever said :) We call him Elmie and Elmchen as nicknames.
I liked it for several reasons. Its meaning ("helmet", which makes me think of protection and "beloved") and it was easy to say so he could learn it easily. I also love Elmo from Sesame Street and his Elmo song :P Yeah and I liked how it was the name of a saint and had some classic background.
I think it's usable on a child, people would just have to get used to it a bit. It's not that far from Enzo which is quite common in some countries.
