Re: Catherine
I know loads by this name...it's one of the most popular in my German class, and in extension my school. I don't know how often I see that spelling, but I see Katherine quite a bit, all going by various names...I even know one who goes by Kit-Kat because of the alliteration of her first and last name! Catherine is my favorite spelling because it's the variation that most befits a queen. Katherine is trendy because of the K, so that's a turnoff, and Kathryn is nice too although looks like a variant.
Yeah, I like the nickname Cathy too. It makes me think of the song Cathy's Clown, by the Everly Brothers.
Yeah, I know. Names like this are leaving the top 100 all the time now. It's sad because some of these names are absolutely beautiful. Mary? I love Mary! Does this mean that my name, Elizabeth, the most common name of all history will fall out eventually too? My favorite names have long since fallen out; Martha, Dorothy, Edward, Frederick, Lawrence...we are losing our identity here!

Oh I've been thinking about Martha a lot lately. It's really growing on me. I think I'll open a thread in a minute. I love Dorothy as well and I like Edward and Frederick.I'm actually happy they're losing popularity because I love them! But they do need more attention.I think Elizabeth will remain in the top 20 for a while but you never know. I was really surprised to see Rebecca and Rachel fall so quickly as well. Oh and Laura. I can't believe how fast Laura has fallen. Not even in the top 100 anymore.I'll go look up the song now :)

My parents considered naming me Laura. They were going to use the combo Laura Elizabeth, after Laura Ingalls Wilder. However, they decided on Jane Elizabeth, but changed it to Elizabeth Jane when I was a few hours old when my mom called me Janie and didn't like it.
Yeah, Dorothy is what I'd name a second daughter. Edward's my favorite male name of all time, with only Lawrence trailing it. Frederick I got into because of my obsession with the Weasley twins.
You know, Elizabeth maybe a top 10 name, but why is it that I never see it in BAs? I saw a Jane Elizabeth today, but I almost never see an Elizabeth anymore unless she has some really weird nickname.
Yeah, I would like to see THESE names popular and not crappy ones like Madison or Nevaeh. Those names could kick the bucket for all I care.
