Eris
This is a name of a Transneptunian Object (a plutoid). I think it's quite a lovely name. I think they were originally calling it Xena, but changed it to much softer Eris.Beautiful meaning also: "Eris is named after the goddess Eris (Greek Έρις), a personification of strife and discord." Perfect for some peoples' style, albeit it a bit dark. I do like it more than Iris, which I also like.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eris_(dwarf_planet)

I think that it is quite a nice name, being so short but still having presence. At the very least, an Eris would have very interesting namesakes!

If I am pronouncing Eris correctly, then it reminds me of the word "heiress." I love names from Greek mythology, as well as short names with prominent vowel sounds like Eris. But I'd keep it in the mn position. The heiress image is too great for me.

On pantheon.org they say Eris is pronounced ee-ris.

"EE-ris?" Oh. Thanks for the info.I don't like the sound of that at all. But I'll mull it over just to give it a fair chance. I love the sound of Emer, so perhaps "EE-ris" will grow on me.Has anyone else ever heard Eris pronounced as, "EE-ris?"

It probably is in English, but definitely not Greek, which would be pronounced eh-REES or EH-rees (I'm not sure where the stress falls in that one).

I think Eris sounds quite lovely, not sure what it is about the spelling tho...maybe that it's close to boys' name Eric
What about a variation like Arys?

Eris is lovely! Eww Xena, why did they want to call it that? Though I have to admit, I'm not a fan of Iris. Oh, and I didn't realise what you were talking about until I saw the link which said dwarf planet. Duh! :)
