My friend Brooke was born in Virginia and her real name is Virginia so I think its just fine (she goes by Brooke to honor her late Uncle Brook so its not an issue of her thinking that being Virginia from Virginia is cheesy).
I also think that if she goes by Jenny you could use the name Jenny to honor her.
