That's more how I would prn it as well. I think it's difficult to accurately represent the nasal vowel sound in writing without the help of the IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet), but no one really uses it, so nevermind. :)
It's not my style, but I like it. I think it's charmingly old-fashioned and wouldn't mind seeing a revival in the vein of Edith and Matilda.
