Having lived with the name Audrey for *ahem* 33 years ("21-12"), I know that (at least where I've lived) it is not heard often, yet is highly recognizable. As a child, I always thought it was too *grown up* for me, and wished for names like my friends had: Jodi, Angie, Stephanie, Melanie, Melissa, Jennifer, etc., but now have grown into it nicely and am very content not to have any of the aforementioned names. I think it’s a *classic* kind of name, however I got the nn "Aud" growing up, until my friends dubbed me "Audge" in high school and then later "Rey". It was doubly important to choose a a name for my daughter that had various nn possibilities. (Cambria Janel: Camii, Camii-J, Camii-Jane, Cam, Cambi, Cameo, CJ, Bria, Bree, Ria, Fred, etc.)
