The original English pronunciation of
Thalia was NOT with the "t" sound. However, that's the way it's said in Spanish, and the name has been especially popular with Hispanics recently, so one is more likely to hear the "T" pronunciation today.
There was a character named
Thalia on "The Many Loves of Dobie
Gillis" TV sitcom in the USA 1959-1963, and her name was prounced "THAYL-yuh", using the "th" sound of "thin" and with the first syllable rhyming with
Dale, mail, nail, whale, etc.
