Re: What happened to these Breton names in France?
There was a French singer named Nolwenn Leroy who first became popular in the early 2000's so she may be partly responsible for the increase in popularity of her name.I know in North America there has been a surge in popularity for certain cultural names at specific periods. French names were popular for a time then Irish names were all the rage. Perhaps France exhibited the same trend with Breton names. It's just a guess but maybe Nolwenn Leroy's sudden visibility spurred an interest in other Breton names in France. Did you notice if MALE Breton names had the same increase in interest at the same time?
