I feel like it's just Latinized, like Rosalinda vs Rosalind; it's only odd because usually the reverse happens. I think Winifreda is more boisterous and flowy, but I feel like that's just my subconscious stereotyping of NW Europe vs SE Europe. I imagine Winifreda as Romanian maybe, or like there's the Polish Wenefryda, whereas Winifred is more tidily English.I've been liking Winifred lately, and I'm fond of the abruptness of D endings in general (I prefer Matild to Matilda, as well), but they're both cool.
