Aileen is pronounced differently in Scotland so they are two names that sound different.
Eileen is EYE-leen and Aileen is AY-leen.
In the US the emphasis is on the second syllable so Eileen is eye-LEEN and Aileen is sometimes eye-LEEN, sometimes ay-LEEN etc. I think Aileen is confusing in the US.
I like the name but not enough to use.
I like Aileen (AY-leen) better. Eileen I prefer as eye-LEEN (not EYE-leen).
