My stepdaughter is Jennifer. When I met her she went by Jenny, which is what the family called her growing up. At some point through counseling she changed to Jennifer as a way to shed childhood things and "grow up."

I had a roommate in college named Jennifer. At that time Jennifer was being used for newborns like crazy but you never met a grown-up Jennifer. Her middle name was Elizabeth, and I remember commenting to her that she had long names.
