It's a grandmother name where I live.
I quite like Susan, but the only nn I enjoy is Susie - Sue does nothing for me at all. So I wouldn't use it: Susannah is a family name which I could use as a mn, but as a fn I'd go for either Suzanne or Suzette.
For some reason, one of my mother's friends nicknamed her Susie - her only given name was Beatrice! I suppose that's why I like Susie. She seemed to attract random nns: another friend always called her Bess.
