I think Mackenzie is a really pretty name, even though I wouldn't use it. I didn't actually know that it was considered a trendy name- you don't hear it very much in Scotland.

Actually, I read that the Scots were one of the first to start using surnames as first names. They've been doing it for a few hundred years now.
