Hahaha I don't think it sounds gross but I'm not a huge fan of the -mond part either. I do however really like Ray, for both genders it makes me think of rays of sun. Well, you could always call him Ray! And the full name is underused and classic. I think it's pretty neat. Oh and the meaning is nice.
