Nothing like seeing at least a dozen babies named the same name to make me ponder why is
Nika
so popular in Croatia?

As far as I know it's because
Nikola
is a prominent Catholic saint so feminisations of his name are always popular.
Nikolina
was huge in my generation and
Nika
(also
Niko
for boys) is seen as a fresher version I guess.
