Re: Blanche

I'm conflicted. We had a client who named her daughter Blanche, and I was delighted, thinking it was elegant, pretty, sophisticated, and sadly neglected. She was an adorable baby, who grew into an adorable toddler, who grew into a really unpleasant and creepy girl. Blanche lost a lot of its charm when attached to a charmless person, and I just thought of "blanch" after that--bloodless tissue and boiled vegetables. I've come to think if Blanche as being somewhat like Agnes & Kermit: It's a name that's cool when attached to the right person but hard to pull off when it's not.
