Re: Ashley
I had a Chinese pupil once whose English teacher in Taiwan had given her the English name Susannah. She never liked it, and when she came to South Africa she asked someone to give her a new name. It was Ashley, and she liked it. Then she found out about burnt things ... so I cheered her up with the etymology ("It's a very pretty tree ... ") and all was well.If it was me, I'd have stayed with Susannah; nothing to do with popularity either. I liked Ashley when I was about 5!
