Re: George
in reply to a message by Fran
Would you use it as a fn or a mn? Presumably a mn, since you give nns for Theodore, William, Leopold, Edwin, Charles and Laurence. I think it's perfectly usable and sounds good with most of the names on your list. My preferences would be for George Theodore, William George, George Edwin, Rupert George, Robin George (probably the best) and George Laurence (though I knew an irritating George once, ln Lawrence). But this would depend on the ln.For a girl, georgette is a fabric in my life, but I am very fond of Georgina. Georgina Rosemary; Georgina Magdalen (without the -e on the end) and Georgina Katharine flow well. I've always rather fancied Ruth Georgina. Of course you can use Georgette with any of your choices that end in -a, but it still sounds wrong to me!
