Re: Elise

"It's so musical I wonder why Ludwig didn't alter his beloved's name just for the euphony of it all. "Fur Elsa" would have swayed me much more."I think it depends on the pronunciation you use. In German Elise (3 syllables) sounds much more melodic and elegant than Elsa (2 syllables).I love Elise!

Yes. I agree. I'm used to hearing Elise as, "eh-LEES." It's the "lees" part that irritates me. It's the same reason why I only like the German pronunciation of Anneliese instead of the usual "anna-LEES" over here.
Elise as "eh-LEE-zeh" is beautiful. (I hope I wrote that correctly.)

Yes, the "LEES" part irritates me too but I guess it has to as I'm German and to me Elise will always be eh-LEE-zə or eh-LEE-zeh. In an English speaking country I wouldn't use Elise but Eliza which I think is very pretty.
