I think these names are cheap and downmarket and look made-up. I associate them with people who are regular guys but not particularly well-educated.
Daryl was - for some strange reason - quite a popular name for men in Australia (men of the over 50 or over 60 group). It sounds girly to me and I'm surprised!!
