Re: Sylvia

I think Sylvia is a beautiful name. It's on my short list of would-consider-using-names.
I can imagine both a little girl, a young woman and an elderly lady named Sylvia. In other words; it's timeless.
Sylvia is elegant, classic and sophisticated (but that's only a good thing!). For what ever reason I imagine Sylvia being a petite blonde (don't ask me why...).
My favorite Sylvia combo is Sylvia Beatrice and I like the nn Sylvie.
I suppose that you *could* find some sort of name for teasing/bullying; kids are kids and kids can be very cruel, after all.
For example; I was teased in school with my name. My name is Cæcilie (variant of Cecilia) and was called pickled herring. I'm Danish and the Danish word for herring is pretty similar to the nn for Cæcilie. The nn is Cille and the word for herring is sild.
I guess I'm trying to say that even though your child's name is fairly normal you can never be truly sure on whether or not they are going to be bullied...
