It's sort of hard to differentiate between Titanic and Dawson's Creek as influences on Dawson because they both premiered at about the same time (the film opened in December 1997, the TV show in January 1998). So they both may have been part of the sharp upswing in the name's use that came about in 1998 and 1999. :)
