Colleen is occasionally used in Scotland. It's not popular, but Scots wouldn't know what it meant in vocab Irish, so there's no barrier to using it. Only a tiny proportion of Scots (about 1 in 100) know Scottish Gaelic, let alone Irish Gaelic :-)
