My good friend's Lao name is Amina. Her legal American name is Monica. She pronounces Amina like ah'-mee-NAH, so 'mee' is on a downbeat. 'Ah' is the second most emphasized part. 'Nah' has the strongest accent. It's really beautiful when she says it, but I really screw it up.
I prefer this to either of the pronounciation you have, as AMM-in-ah reminds me of "ominous" and ah-MEE-nah sounds like amino as in amino acids.

Hi! That pronunciation is really pretty, I think it's prettiest of all. It's funny because I have another close friend named Monica, and it's not like Monica and Amina are common names. Amina pronounces her name AMM-inn-uh, amm like ammunition or clam, not like ominous. Though "Aminous" would make a funny nickname for it!
