My SIL has a sister named Laura, and it is pro. LAH-ruh. The rest of the time it is pronounced lor-A (that's the best I can do.) Lara is pronounced a few different ways here - lare-a and LAH-ruh. I actually prefer the first one because it's what I'm used to.

A good example of Laura being pronounced LAH-ruh is in Sleeping With the Enemy
